Health: Be careful if you’re eating too much of these foods

Unhealthy foods

Unhealthy foods tend to be grouped in a category that we know as highly-processed foods which taste so good, they become a sinful treat. The levels of certain ingredients such as sugar, salt and fat (trans fat/ saturated fat) tend to contribute to diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes.

Trans fat is formed when an extra hydrogen is added into liquid vegetable oils to make the item more solid. The magical thing about this ingredient is that it makes food so desirable and delicious that manufacturing companies/ food establishments cannot help but to use oils with trans fat in them. In the end, most chips, snacks and processed food contain it as well.

Carbonated drinks that contain sugar are also a very dangerous tactic as our brain is designed to love sugar, and lots of sugar will give a sugar rush/ dopamine response. This ultimately creates an unhealthy addiction for you to consume more and feel the sensation over and over again.

Refined Carbs or simple carbs are carbohydrates stripped off their nutrients such as fiber, bran and nutrients. It can be found in most bread, pizza, fries, cereals and rice. The surplus of sugar causes the blood sugar levels to rise, then crashing and craving for more carbs, hence the vicious cycle.

Even though we will struggle to quit certain categories of unhealthy foods, it is always possible to make a swap for one meal a day everyday for a week to start noticing changes in your energy levels. Do try it and see the difference for yourself.

Fried Food

Deep frying is a common cooking method used across the globe. It’s often used by restaurants and fast food chains as a quick and inexpensive way to prepare foods.

Many people like the taste of fried foods. Yet these foods tend to be high in calories and trans fats, so eating a lot of them can have negative effects on your health.

Trans fats are formed when unsaturated fats undergo a process called hydrogenation. In fact, trans fats are associated with an increased risk of many diseases, including heart disease, cancer, diabetes and obesity. Besides, fried foods may contain harmful acrylamide. Acrylamide is a toxic substance that can form in foods during high-temperature cooking and most importantly it poses a risk for several types of cancer.

In fact, two large observational studies found that the more often people ate fried foods, the greater their risk of developing heart disease. It’s good to consume it once in a while but everything has to be done with moderation.
