Health: Emotion and Immune System

Knowledge Emotion

Will your emotion affects your immune system? Yes!
A hormone called cortisol, which decreases our immune resistance, is secreted by the body when it is under prolonged tension and stress.

Long-term immune system suppression increases the risk of developing diseases like cancer.
Researchers have shown that stress hormones are produced by our bodies. This stress hormone will unite with any cancer cells present in our bodies, causing the cancer cells to develop quickly as a result.

According to recent research, patients with faster-growing breast cancers have higher levels of stress hormones in their blood. Those leukemia patients who were more pessimistic and less optimistic showed higher levels of leukaemia and stress hormones.
Optimistic people are less likely to catch a cold because they have better immune resistance.

In fact, a good mood needs to be cultivated by yourself, not by others.
Smile more, be happier, and your immune resistance will naturally improve.

Stress Management

Stress is a common occurrence in everyday life – be it as simple as figuring out what to eat or having a deadline you need to rush for. When you feel stressed, you will normally feel a rush of adrenaline which can improve your overall performance of the day, giving 100% at whatever you’re doing. However, too much stress will lead to something known as chronic stress. It comes in when there is constant stress for an extended period of time, which can make you completely overwhelmed and lead to issues such as insomnia, anxiety and most importantly a weak immune system. The consequences are more serious than what you may think.

That’s why it is very important to manage stress, starting from the smallest lifestyle habits which are simple but could be possibly neglected. These are inclusive of swapping fast foods to a more nutritious diet, quitting smoking/vaping if possible (or reducing the number of packs per day) and making a commitment to sleep around (7-8 hours per day and honoring your body).
