Healthtalk (FiberTalk) 9 – Why does your body need Fiber?

Why does your body need fiber?

Ever since young, our loved ones would ask us to eat more fruit and vegetables as they contain fiber and help you excrete unwanted waste from your body. But do you ever wonder why some people still have constipation even though they seem to take enough fiber in their daily intake? There’s a difference between eating a few pieces of fruits and vegetables and actually consuming the recommended fiber. Based on the Food and Drug Administration, it is recommended to consume 27g for adults on a 2000 calorie diet. The USDA also recommends 25 to 28g for women and 31 to 34g for men.

Fiber is important for improving bowel movement, lowering cholesterol levels, maintaining blood sugar levels and most importantly helps to achieve that healthy weight goals you’ve always dreamed of. One of the ways to ensure you always get the daily dosage of fiber is by taking FiberTalk, containing psyllium husk, which is a rich source of fiber, as its main ingredient. Another key ingredient is banana as it has a good source of potassium, an essential mineral for maintaining normal blood pressure and heart function, along with Vitamin C, Manganese and Vitamin B6. Remember to drink enough water daily as fiber works when it absorbs sufficient water.

In the last twenty years or so, a significant number of studies have been done on the value of dietary fiber.

The United States Food and Drug Administration believes that a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol and high in fruits, vegetables, and grain products containing fiber, particularly soluble fiber, reduces the risk of coronary heart disease.

In addition, recent research shows a possible correlation between dietary fiber intake and colorectal cancers and diabetes.

Therefore, to get the most nutritional benefit from your food, it is important to choose less refined food products that contain more of the nutritional elements the body needs, including fiber. When fiber is processed out of the food, the body often cannot effectively use the nutrients that remain or have been added.

What is evident, however, is that a diet rich in a variety of whole foods provides the necessary vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, and fiber the body needs for optimal health and wellness.
