Higher Levels of Omega-3 in the Blood Can Increase Life Expectancy
Research published in 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝐴𝑚𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑛 𝐽𝑜𝑢𝑟𝑛𝑎𝑙 𝑜𝑓 𝐶𝑙𝑖𝑛𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑙 𝑁𝑢𝑡𝑟𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 has found that higher levels of omega-3 in red blood cells can increase life expectancy by almost five years! It is estimated that being a regular smoker may shorten life expectancy by 4.7 years. Just a 1% increase in omega-3 in the blood can bring about benefit similar to quitting smoking! Omega-3 can be increased through the diet by eating foods such as kiwi fruit seeds, chia seeds, and fatty fish.

Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for brain health. Thankfully, Mother Nature has it all figured out! Nuts, seeds, and other plant foods provide a treasure trove of omega-3s. Chia seeds, kiwi fruit seeds, dragon fruit seeds, walnuts, and even macadamia nuts are some plantbased options. Although the omega-3s in plant foods exist mostly in the form of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), the human body can partially convert ALA to docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). Munch away and start that omega-3 intake early for maximum benefits!
